I know that a loooong while ago, I promised to upload som pics of what our house looks like. As you might have noticed, I haven't yet. I still haven't, but almost. Here it is: Quibdó life in pictures. Enjoy!
Evening view from our balcony
Eftersom trottoarerna är så dåliga/icke-existerande, är det lättare att gå mitt i gatan. Med risk att bli överkörd av en galen motorcykelförare förstås. Men det är det värt!
Since the sidewalks are in such a poor state/non existent, it's easier to walk in the middle of the street. With the risk of being run over by an insane motorcyclist of course. But it's worth it!
Paulina and Sanna are enjoying a cheese sandwich on the balcony. The bread comes from the 24-hour bakery on the ground floor of the grimy house in the background. Other than bread one can get beer, head ache pills and sweets there. Could a person ever need anything else?
If you should feel like having something other than cheese sandwiches and are not in the mood for the chocoan cuisine (which, I hate to say, is rather uniform - mostly banana, rice and fish), you can go to Iván's house. His pizza is fantastic!
(Emma, Iván & Karin)
When you don't eat, you work. This is the view from our office (which is on the second floor in our flat). The gigantic grey thing in the background is the cathedral. An architectural master piece... Behind the cathedral is the Atrato river.

Våra husdjur / Our pets
Geckoödlor har vi fullt av i hela huset. De gillar äpple - jättemycket!
Our house is overrun by geckos and they REALLY like apple!
I wondered for a long time what it was that made such a racket in my bathroom in the evenings. Here is the answer: the House Mouse. In spite of its adorable snout, it is a monster. It has devoured innumerable loafs of bread, papayas, eggs, torn holes in bags of drinking water and has made it a habit to use my bathroom sink as its private toilet. When we finally managed to remove all food items from its way, it started on my soap! That was when we started to talk of a mousetrap and since then it has nowhere to be seen...
One morning I woke up to this beauty: "Oh, what is that big stain? But... it moves!". It was still alive and kicking its legs in the air. Yuck! A short while later it had acquianted itself with Emma's flip flop... Bye bye cockroach!
Our fish, Simone and Rosa Parks. They have had a bit of a hard time: first their bowl broke, Simone apparently took it harder than we understood because one night, Emma found her on the floor half eaten by ants. We then went and got Simone II and a new bowl. It seems as if Rosa didn't like it much there, as one morning she was gone. We searched for a pretty long time before we found her stuck in a sea shell. She passed a few hours later. Now Simone II is alone, but she seems to have taken the trauma quite well.
Have I mentioned that it rains a lot here? This is what it looks like in downtown Quibdó during a downpour.
